The Full Story
Hi! I am a Utah-based oil painter specializing in biological surrealism under the name LudoLiss Art.
While becoming an artist was my childhood dream, my journey actually began in a science lab. I hold an honors degree in biology, with a research background focused on microbiology, including fungi and phages. Lots of hours with pipettes and microscopes!
That scientific foundation informs every brushstroke. When I paint skeletal anatomy, folklore, blooming fungi, or botanicals, I am not just creating something aesthetic. I am observing the beauty of the natural world and telling its story.
My work revolves around 'memento vivere', a reminder to live. Using motifs like feminine portraits, butterflies, mushrooms, floral symbolism, and animal skulls, I weave together life and death, play and peril.
While the subject matter explores cycles of decay, the final pieces are intentionally bright, colorful, and folksy, celebrating how beautifully resilient our ever-changing world is.
My work has been showcased at the Urban Arts Gallery, the Logan Art Gallery, The Alley on Center, and as an Emerging Artist at the 2026 Utah Arts Festival. Beyond the canvas, I am dedicated to using my art to build a vibrant, inclusive community, actively supporting local small businesses, non-profits, and animal shelters.
When I step away from the easel, I often find myself gardening, walking along the river by my home, exchanging hyper-specific wildlife facts with my husband, or getting lost in fantasy, thriller, and horror novels. Whether I'm out finding bones while camping or at bookclub with my friends, I am always gathering new folklore and biological inspiration to bring back to the canvas.
